Identification of People in Photos – An
Example
We were able to identify the people in the
following two photos, taken in Aschaffenburg as well.
Because of the resemblance we assumed the
lady on the left to be a sister of Frieda Isaak and Pauline
Sündermann of Bayreuth.
According to Frieda's marriage certificate, one
of the witnesses was Ferdinand Löwenthal from
Hösbach, only 4 miles outside of Aschaffenburg. On a field
postcard sent by Leo Löwenthal from Oostende to Frieda's daughter
Else, the placename Hösbach is mentioned. Another postcard signed
by Leo was sent from Gent to Frieda Isaak in Bayreuth. This postcard
contains greetings to Aunt Paula (obviously Pauline Sündermann).
Through further research we were able to
identify the family and thus the lady in the photo as Berta
Löwenthal née Fleischmann. She and her husband Ferdinand had
emigrated to Amsterdam.
We have positively indentified the person in
the second photo from Aschaffenburg as Leo Löwenthal.
Ferdinand and his son Leo were deported to
Auschwitz in 1942/43.
